Atelier CMS by AIncient Labs

Several sites on one machine

Run independent Atelier sites side by side with the atelier CLI — each with its own data, port and backups.

One Atelier installation can run several independent sites side by side — a blog next to your company site, a client's site next to your own. Each site is its own appliance with its own containers, database, uploaded files, port and backups. Nothing is shared between them.

Create and list sites

atelier sites add blog --label "Blog"
atelier sites list

sites add creates the site in ~/.atelier/sites/blog, gives it the first free console port (41222, 41223, …) and installs it. Pass --port <PORT> to choose the port yourself. sites list shows each site's name, port, whether it is running, and its version. The active site is marked with *.

If you already had Atelier installed, your existing site appears as default. It stays in ~/.atelier with all of its data — it is never moved.

Choose which site a command acts on

Every atelier command accepts --site <SLUG>:

atelier --site blog app status
atelier --site blog data backup
atelier --site blog app open

Without --site, commands use the active site. Change it with:

atelier sites use blog

The order is: --site, then the ATELIER_HOME environment variable, then the active site, then ~/.atelier.

Rename or remove a site

atelier sites rename blog "The Blog"
atelier sites remove blog

rename changes only the display name; the site's folder and data are unchanged. remove stops the site and takes it off the list, but deletes nothing: its folder, database and uploaded files are kept. Run atelier sites add blog to bring it back with its data. The default site in ~/.atelier can't be removed.

Update every site

atelier app update --all

Updates each installed site in turn, each along its own upgrade route. If one site fails, the others still update, and the command tells you which one failed.

Things to know

  • Every running site runs its own containers, including its own database, so each extra site uses more memory.
  • Each site has its own AI provider keys: connect AI in each new site's onboarding.
  • atelier doctor warns if two sites are set up on the same port, since only one of them can run at a time, and shows the command that moves one to a free port.
  • The desktop app works on the active site — choose it with atelier sites use.
